5 Tips

to get you started with Gratitude Journaling

& Make It Work Magic Into Your Life

1.     Set a schedule

It’s important for us to make a habit out of something that we really want to do consistenly in our lives. In our to make journaling an every day habit, set a specific time in your morning or evening where you can sit down a do this.

Make sure you are alone at this time of the day and have plenty of time to write your journal entry (you are not rushed through it).

2.     Make it enjoyable

You are supposed to enjoy it, not be doing it as another every day chore. In order to do this, grab a cup of coffee or tea, sit on a patio or cozy chair, grab a colorful pen and so on.

Make a self – care session out of it. giving yourself some care and attention.

3.     Specificity

Break your gratitude into very specific, small details. For example, if you write in your journal “I’m grateful for the coffee barista at Starbucks”, you will not feel as grateful as if you consciously remembered specific efforts and deeds, like how he remembers your name and the way you like your latte.

Generalized sentiments will not feel genuine. The truth is in the details.

4.     Feel

Every day journaling can quickly become stale and cease to inspire when you forget to really feel though what you are writing down.

Make sure to bring your gratitude through your emotional house. The sole physical act of writing things down is important, but it will only work magic into your life if you feel that warm feeling of gratitude while writing.

5.     Scarcity

Frame events as being limited in time. It is helpful to notice that a particular good thing in your life is going to end or imagine that it is about to end. For example, how would you value your best friend if you knew they would soon be moving to another country? Would your gratitude for having that person in your life increase?
