Vision Boards: How Do They Work?

When you want something, you form its picture in your mind.

Visualization puts you in a powerful mental state. It allows you to believe that your vision can become a reality. It is powerful because it makes abstract ideas for success (or failure) more tangible.

With a clear vision, you will find the opportunities to make it a reality.

What is a Vision Board?

A vision board is an actual blank canvas or paperboard on which you create a collage of photos, quotes, or words that inspire your goal or dream life. It is a concrete layout of what you want to experience and achieve in life.

Let's say you aspire to be a well-known interior designer. You may fill your board with photos of your favorite spaces, your dream design school, and the awards you may want to garner.

Control Your Mindset

Veer away from a victim or scarcity mentality. Achieve a strong growth mindset that believes your vision will be a reality if you do the work. Part of this work involves the nitty-gritty of self-reflection. It confronts insecurities, toxic beliefs, and personal limitations through journaling, meditation, goal setting, and daily tracking.

Make it Tangible

The vision board has to be something you can hold and touch. A digital one does not stimulate your subconscious mind as much as actual handcrafting on a real board does.

Split Your Board Into Sections

You can divide the board into dream-life categories such as career, travel, relationships, health, and lifestyle. This helps you visualize each section of your dream life or get a good overall picture.

Consider Two Boards

Make a personal one and another for your joint vision with your life partner. Although you have personal goals, you also need to align them with those in your partnership. Let the board show what your life together will look like.

Display Your Dreams

Showcase your vision board on a wall or tuck it away for an annual look. Whatever you do, you now have a crystal clear image of what you want.

Support Your Vision with Tools

Support your visual life by making journaling a habit. Outline your goals and your process of achieving them in more detail. Let a journal help you keep track of your progress and make you accountable for your decisions.

A vision board allows you to clearly see your path and focus on what you want. Many successful people use it’s power to get to where they are. Vision boarding is an effective tool for designing your reality instead of just living life at random.
